Downtown Streets Team (DST) builds Teams that restore dignity, inspire hope, and provide a pathway to recover from homelessness. We do this by engaging people at-risk of or experiencing homelessness in a program which builds community, helps people work towards self-sufficiency, and achieve a higher quality of life through obtaining permanent employment and sustainable housing. In the 16 cities in which we operate throughout the Bay Area and across Northern and Central California, DST, provides support and connects individuals to the resources needed to make steps out of homelessness. DST has been recognized as one of the most innovative and effective non-profits fighting homelessness in California. This is a DIY opportunity with an option to connect on Zoom with other volunteers as they assemble kits during Day of Beneficence. Volunteers will collect and assemble items for hygiene kits which will be distributed by Downtown Streets Team to unhoused neighbors throughout the Bay Area and Northern California. Some of the items that are included in the hygiene/care kits are travel sized deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, travel shampoo and conditioner, razors, lotion, mouthwash, comb, body (wet) wipes, tissues, hand sanitizer, gift cards (Walmart, Safeway, CVS, Subway, McDonald's, etc.), band-aids, sunscreen, socks, non-perishable wrapped snacks and candy. For women, hair ties and feminine care products are also welcomed. Whatever items you choose, they should be assembled in an easy to carry self-contained package or bag. Kits can be mailed or dropped off to the local Downtown Streets Team Office.
